WHO ARE MILITARY CONNECTED STUDENTS?

Military-connected students are children in TK-12 schools and young adults in trade schools, or institutions of higher education (2 or 4-year schools) who are official dependents of a military service member. A military-connected student has one degree of separation from their military sponsor. The connection may be biological, because of adoption, through foster parenting, or with in loco parentis authorization.

  • Youth Programs

    Camp Pendleton Youth Services (760.725.5608)

Marine and Family Programs' Relocation Assistance Program and Family Team Building Community Support (FTBCS) work together with the Youth Centers and the local schools to provide a special program for school-age youths to help them become acquainted with the opportunities awaiting them in Southern California.

The Youth Sponsorship Program helps youths moving to the Camp Pendleton area by matching them up with another age-appropriate youth presently living in the Camp Pendleton area. The youths correspond in order to find out exactly what to expect upon their arrival at Camp Pendleton. To obtain a youth sponsor, you may use the toll-free line 1-800-253-1624 or contact the Relocation Assistance Program directly.

United Through Reading Deployments and frequent separations are a reality for military families. In fact, every year, more than 100,000 military parents deploy leaving nearly 250,000 children at home. That's millions of bedtime stories missed each year by military children.

United Through Reading knows that hearing a parent's voice and seeing their face is a truly unique experience that cannot be replaced. That's why our storytime video recordings are able to be watched on-demand with their own copy of the book, whenever the child misses their service member. Being read to by a parent helps military children feel like their parents are closer to home, reducing stress and anxiety levels and making it easier to cope while their parents are away.

USO California USO California operates within the third largest state in the nation and aims to reach the +151,000 U.S. Armed Forces personnel and their families stationed across the state, the highest concentration of any state. The centers, which are visited more than 260,000 times per year, provide a warm and comforting place for service members to connect with loved ones and enjoy the comforts of home. Similarly, USO programs focus on connection, strengthening, wellness, and resiliency.

The WelConnect app connects families to available resources and support programs provided by their school district, their schools, the surrounding community, and the US military. It's available to download on your device from the Apple iTunes Store, or Google Play for Android.
