This course provides a study of child development from prenatal through adolescence. The areas covered include the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social growth of children. A study of childhood illness, family challenges, and career opportunities will be incorporated into the course material.

Developmental Psychology of Children

This course examines the major theories of child development and their application. Students will develop an understanding of children and the development process through reading, case studies, observations, individual research projects, cooperative learning groups, and the creation of a lesson plan portfolio. The class is designed for students seeking careers as teachers, childcare workers, daycare directors, child psychologist, speech therapist, counselors, social workers, or any other child-related careers.

Community Classroom

Grades 11-12    CHS Graduation: Elective     UC/CSU A-G: “G”    Video Description: Coming Soon

This course is designed to support the Developmental Psychology of Children class. Through community placement in childcare and preschool centers, students will be exposed to workplace standards and policies, child development and guidance processes, preschool curriculum activities, classroom management, health, safety legal issues, and nutrition guidelines. Students will keep a daily journal and be prepared to share their experiences in the classroom.

Prerequisite: Developmental Psychology of Children
